On 11th April 1970 the ill fated Apollo 13 blasted off from Cape Canaveral, Florida. The third manned lunar landing mission ran into trouble some 2 days and 200,000 miles from home when oxygen tank No.2 blew up causing the mission to change from a planed landing to a desperate attempt to get the astronauts back safely.
It was today, April 17th 1970 that the astronauts successfully splashed down with virtually the whole world letting out a huge breath of relief.
