Been a while since I updated this blog, mainly because I got back into sea fishing and have spent the last few weeks getting up to speed again

Just one question …. Why make the handle bars look like they were taken off a 60′s Vespa ?

Started fishing around 17.15 with high tide due around an hour later. The cloud had rolled in since the morning but the wind seemed a bit lighter than the last few days and still from the SW ish. Sea was not very violent, just a few white horses and fairly heavily coloured.

Only using one rod but fished black lug at various distances from peg 11 on a two hook flapper, caught nowt but bait well ‘nibbled’ when about 20m out. There were a few others around, had a nice chat with most of them and the only catch was a small Dover Sole from about peg 19.

There were a few drops of rain which did not bother me but got a phone call from better half that she was finishing work early so packed it in around 19.15 …. Lost my rig on the final reel in.

So … Spent a lot of money, got rained on, lost a rig, caught nothing … But still had a great time and have a smile on my face

Big question ….. Why did I leave it so long ?

I found 3 head torches, after a bit of cleaning I’ve got them working … However they are all of the bulb type ( that should give you an idea of how long it’s been ), but I have a few high intensity LEDs lurking around so might try and convert one.

Not much weed around and quite coloured water, could be worth chucking a line for Bass. Was hoping to get a nice sunny day with flat seas so I could do some Mackerel bashing for bait.

Malte Gather and Seok Hyun Yun at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital in the US rescently reported in Nature Photonics that they had managed to get a single,living cell to produce laser light.

Laser, which stands for ‘Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation’ has been around for a while with the first Maser being produced in 1953 … The ‘M’ standing for Microwave. The Laser followed in 1960.

Since then various methods have been used to create Laser light, but this is the first time a living cell has been coaxed into producing the light. It all started with modifying a cell from a glowing jellyfish so that it could produce a light emitting protein. A group of these cells was then ‘flooded’ with a weak blue light which caused them to emit a directed green Laser light.

Mine were bad enough with just claws !

Apart from producing mutants with Laser beams burning from their eyes this also has positive implications for medical studies.

Unfortunately cross checks using a separate experiment called DZero on the data have yet to find any support for the original observation. T his news was released just a few days

after a CDF team member had released updated data which appeared to show that, after looking at double the quantity of data as before, the tell tale signal had actually increased.

Professor Stefan Soldner-Rembold, spokesperson for the DZero collaboration, told BBC News: “We looked at the data-set that CDF originally published… We inject a signal in our simulation which looks like what we would have observed if CDF had seen the real thing.

“We analysed the data accordingly and, as observed, there is no enhancement. We can exclude something like what CDF observed to a relatively high probability.”

All is not quite over yet though, there is some debate over what data set the DZero group used.

No doubt this will continue for many months yet.

Last Wednesday the command was sent for it to go into deep sleep for the next 2.5 years, the only systems running will be some basic heating and a timer which should wake it up at 10:00 am GMT on the 20^th January 2014. Until that point it will run silent with nothing being sent back.

When it wakes up it will only be a few months away from its rendezvous with the 4km wide comet out near Jupiter, the plan is for it to follow the comets path as it moves towards the sun.

Carried on board is the Osiris camera system which is managed by the scientists at the Max Plank Institute for Solar Research ( MPS ) which actually managed to catch an image of the comet before it went into hibernation even though it was still over 150 million kilometres away.

One interesting fact about it is that it is already the furthest probe we have sent out that relies on solar power.

Internet cults have this effect on me

Basically they have bought up a lot of domains and added a script that means they can list friendly keywords for the Google Bots so it gets indexed, but if a real person follows the link they just get diverted to the brain washing site.

I have used Google Adwords for many years now and just tested something out on my account to see what happened. The average max CPC for a placement using ‘Quantum Jumping’ is £0.51, which gives a good indication of how much they are actually making through their site.

What I find a bit strange is that I remember advising businesses back in 2000 to avoid SEO companies that promised to increase your ranking by using ‘Gateway Pages’, as they were called back then. Google then started cracking down on those sort of pages, but it seems for a company making hundreds ( or billions ) of dollars per year they seem to have turned a bit of a blind eye … As long as the company spamming is actually paying them for advertising.

I’ve just tried a little experiment, what I have done is altered the first sentence of my post ever so slightly. If the search results show the change then it means that they are pulling the words directly from my site rather than having just copied them … If this is the case then I can change the first few lines of the post to whatever I like and it will show up in the search results, then it will be play time
