PERSONAL STATEMENT

 

I’ve spent my working life pretty equally split between the IT and Hospitality sectors and do feel that they complement each other very well giving me a good technical background combined with excellent customer services.

 

What I am now looking for is a position within a company that will enable me to build on these key skills as well as develop new ones, I would also like to work for someone that offers the opportunities to progress through the company.

CAREER HISTORY

 

Night Porter

West Beach Hotel ( Sprachcaffe ),

Duties :

As the only member of staff on duty over night I was responsible for the general security and safety of the guests and hotel, also dealing with any problems or questions. On top of the usual duties I was also in charge of invoicing agencies and chasing up payments. During the busy periods of the year I also helped out in the accounts department which handled the accounts for all Sprachcaffe locations in the UK.

Duties :

I set up this company which traded in Domain Names. This meant sourcing Domain Names and then either finding a buyer straight away or developing a website to increase its value. As I did not employ anyone else it means that I was involved in all areas from customer enquiries through to preparing accounts. The technology I used for websites was mostly PHP / MySQL.

Duties :

I set up this company in early 2000 as I spotted a niche market for small, low cost websites to promote local businesses in Cumbria. I started by renting space on a server but the provider steadily got worse so I leased a Linux Server, around that time I found that actually just providing web hosting was better for the business and started the BitShack hosting service. This grew to 6 servers and partnering up with an American web design service and an Australian ISP, who now own and run BitShack.

Duties :

General running of the bar including stock control and ordering. Standing in for Restaurant Manager on his days off. As the only member of staff to live on the premises I was also in charge of locking up at night and dealing with any problems / enquiries etc. until the morning staff came on duty.

Duties :

This is a Holiday Centre owned by the YWCA and consisted of a 50 bed hostel and 2 self catering chalets, I was in overall charge of the running including meal planing, dealing with bookings, staff, wages, accounts and banking etc.

 

 

In my 25 years of employment I have never been fired and references can be obtained from any of my previous employers ( a full list is available on request ) and only had 2.5 days off sick. Other positions have included shop work ( selling climbing and skiing equipment ), deck hand on pirate radio ship of the coast of Israel and baby sitting dogs in Anchorage, Alaska.

I have ‘O’ Levels in English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Physics, Technology, Chemistry.

‘A’ Levels in Mathematics, Physics and Technology.

An ‘A/O’ in General Studies.

I also have my ECDL ( European Computer Drivers License ), Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate and have completes a Whitbread course in Beer and Cellar Management.

I am an Associate Member of the IET ( Institution of Engineering and Technology ).
